Clinics Brake Shop - Peer In-Services

‘Learning About Leaky Brakes’

Peer In-Services

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Check out the Coming Events page for a list of upcoming Brake Shop educational opportunities.
Wait-times for education can be shortened considerably when interested staff and families ‘partner up’ with these existing bookings.  All groups advertised on our website to receive education from us have been approved for public advertisement, have agreed to ‘partner up’, and would be anticipating your call.
CPRI is now a member of the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN), a not-for-profit organization supporting provincial clinical, educational, and administrative telemedicine with a broad, secure and reliable videoconferencing network spanning the continuum of community health services.”  Brake Shop educational opportunities are available via OTN upon request.
No referrals to the Brake Shop are required to book (i.e. you do not need to be a client of the Brake Shop, or affiliated with a client of the Brake Shop, to book).
All educational opportunities are free of charge.
Peer In-Services introduce students to the ‘Leaky Brake Club’, which is made up of many famous individuals as well as many students who all have difficulty regulating or stopping their actions, attention, thoughts, or emotions.
·         Download a brief outline of Peer In-Services here
·         Download fact sheet here
·         SCHOOL PERSONNEL: download a ‘to-do’ checklist for Peer In-Services here
Our structure and approach has been refined over many years, is supported by an evidence-base, and is informed by over 150 in-services to more than 30 000 youth.
To reserve an in-service, you may download the Peer In-Service Booking Form document and mail the completed form to the address given.  Alternatively, you can call our clinic secretary at (519) 858-2774 ext. 2025.
Teachers will receive a School Ratings of Student Disruptions to ‘Leaky Brakes’ Pre-Measure as part of the Peer In-Service Booking Form.  This form must be completed for a Peer In-Service booking to be confirmed.
One month following the Peer In-Service, please complete the School Ratings of Student Disruptions to 'Leaky Brakes' Post - Measure form (to be completed by the same teacher and also now the child/youth).  Please return this measure to our clinic.
·         Worried about what is said in an assembly, or how people will react?  Not sure if this is for you?  Just want to hear an in-service yourself to learn more about TS & associated disorders???  Listen to an entire in-service, delivered by "Dr. Dunc" in January 2007, by clicking on the audio links below!  Files are in ".mp3” format, are numbered in order of sequence, and file names indicate the general topics discussed in that segment:
1.)     Brake Shop Peer In-Service -- Introduction
2.)     Brake Shop Peer In-Service -- Tics & Tourette
3.)     Brake Shop Peer In-Service -- ADHD
3.)     Brake Shop Peer In-Service – ‘Rage’
5.)     Brake Shop Peer In-Service -- Advocacy
6.)    Brake Shop Peer In-Service -- Q/A (includes discussions on topics such as medication, OCD, sensory processing dysfunction, Deep Brain Stimulation, suppression of tics)
·        Convinced people at school already understand, but just don’t care? You might be surprised – check out this download here.
·         Download our clinic’s “Pat On The Back” Certificate here:
§          This is not a handout for all students. Referred to during the Peer In-Service, this handout is intended for children & youth with ‘Leaky Brake’ diagnoses (e.g. Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, sensory processing dysfunction) that may not have been identified at the in-service
